In case any of you are following this 'soap opera': the hen was suffering from poo plugging her vent and I suspect it's from the meds. She has never had any problems health-wise and was 7 years old. We culled her and the nervous, possibly molting, skinny hen who's been living in the sheep shed (it's a pain to have chickens separated!) We will get dry ice and try that on 4 more on Monday (this includes our roo and that's going to tear me apart emotionally!). Hopefully the dry ice will work well. We will buy two brick sized blocks. Our high temp on Tuesday day will be -2 here in VT. brrrr....
We'll then see how it goes w/ the remaining 6, only one of which is exhibiting sick symptoms (our old favorite crop problem hen; she may be improving though and seems to be in good spirits for now so we are reluctant to kill her yet).
So, slowly our flock is reducing in size...
I am stopping the meds since we will be culling the other 4 sick birds soon.

My husband and I will be euthanizing several birds tonight. I could not get the dry ice before they closed. Can get some Monday so we will probably shoot a few tonight. The drama continues I guess. Thank you Tina for your reminder about the reality of living on a farm.... I am preparing myself for many tears and a good explanation to give to my girls so that they understand this all better....
