[CHICKENS-101] Fw: Spring Hatch ... peep ... peep ... peep ...

HI Laura,  Will did not say olive egg layers are rare, he said:  "We have a new egg color to offer our customers this year!  We have done some experimenting and discovered that when you cross our Marans which lay a very dark brown egg with our Ameracuana which lay a dark blue egg, you get offspring which lay a really pretty, dark olive egg.  Olive Eggers or Avocado Eggers, as people like to call them, are not uncommon.  But what is uncommon is to find this cross using bloodlines that have been specifically selected for very dark, saturated egg color.  The resulting dark olive egg color is really vibrant and much prettier than the pale olive eggs you get from crosses with run of the mill bloodlines.  Check out the photos and description on our website;"
One thing to remember is that his chickens are mycoplasma free. They come healthy unlike other hatcheries who will not give you that certification. Many hatcheries spread mycoplasma disease all over the UA.
Olive egg layers are not rare.

I am off to water the chickens in the cattle barn with hot water because I am sure there is ice in their dishes because it is and has been so miserable cold in Michigan. I'll never ever do this again, I hate going out so early.

I'm confused about Olive Eggers, I keep reading that they are 'rare' — however, more than 25 % of my flock are Ameracaunas / Easter Eggers. The rest splits between layers of white, tinted and a slew of tan / brown colored eggs. With cross breeding, I'm getting a ton of olive eggs without even trying - brown over blue allele crosses. I'm guessing the continuing the crosses will increase the color shift and eventually normalize it, correct? I do think that they are cool, as are the minty green eggs that are paler than not blue/white crosses.

I can't believe that they sell the olive eggers for more money.  I have plenty I could sell
for half that.
