PS
Dawn, Re: bunnies being the wrong color I process chickens for being the wrong color, for not meeting the standard which means they would not show well/open/4-H, and you know what? They make great soup! It is not your place to judge others. Unwanted pets that have to be sold cheaply often are not cared for properly. I used to sell silkies for cheap but after finding them in the supposed so called good homes in the cold, in a cage with snow blowing in, with the barn door open, no food or water, and it costing me a small fortune to buy them back to get them the heck out of there - I decided it is better to eat them. If a chick is handicapped, or all wrong, at hatch, I put them to sleep.

Research this method before using it . There is info out there. Using dry ice is not recommended for animals other than mice and rats. You can use co2 cartridges but there are steps to take. IMO it is inhumane . It seems a lot of rabbit breeders use this method to do away with bunnies and rabbits that won't show well. Kill a baby rabbit for the wrong color! Insane. And they do suffer if not done properly. Perhaps your chickens are just suffocating in that bin. I'm sorry-but this just doesn't seem right. Maybe giving your sick bird some comfort care until she passes on? An injured or suffering animal should be taken to a vet to be put down if no one is able to dispatch it quickly.
