US vs. USA
 
After WW2, Japan, in trying to recover, made a lot of small things to sell here.  Toys, small paper figures, all sorts of small things, and most of it quickly became recognized as junk.  "Made in Japan" meant it was cheap, poorly made, poor materials, and would fall apart fast.  Even the china dishes were very frail.  So obviously, people stopped buying it.
 
Japan named one of their islands Usa, and started labeling products as "made in Usa".  And they got away with it for quite a while too!
 
True story.  Some of you probably remember.
