Hi Pat, For egg layers, an approximate schedule: I feed mine 24% chick starter for the first three weeks, then drop down to 20% chick for the next 4 weeks. (Never change feed suddenly, mix the two feeds for a week reducing the amount of the higher protein feed.) For weeks 8-10 drop down to 18% so they do not grow too fast. Your feed needs to contain animal protein. If your chickens are big chickens that start to lay early I would drop their protein down to 15% grower for weeks 11 to 16 weeks, then move the protein up to 18% and leave it there. All of this is approximate. I leave my silkies on the 18% for life and drop their protein with steam rolled oats.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] question for Cathryn
I think it was Cathryn who recently posted when to change the food that chicks and pullets and hens eat and such. I had saved the email, but now can't find it. Could you please repost?
Thank you
Valerie in Va.
