My only trouble with our RIR Roo were the weeks between the time he got his hormones flowing and about the week after we culled the last of his competition... he was an angel before and has been an angel since... he used to like to be carried around but he is so big now he settles for petting and treats
Yes he crows alot .. but we are rural so its not bothering anyone .. he is an AWESOME protector, alerting the girls if he sees a hawk they all run for cover, he finds food and calls them over to it ( which in my book he only uses to distract them so he can mount them) and when we had that fox last week he fought hard to save his RIR hen (failed but tried valiantly) ... he is quite an asset to our flock...
Now .. on the other hand .. if you are urban or suburban his crowing may not be welcome AND with only 3 girls to entertain him , they could be "run ragged" quite easily. Even with our 10 girls there are 4 that look like cheap prostitutes they are so disheveled (must be his favorites) (it was too hot this summer to put aprons on them)
I have heard of mean Roos, but not experienced them.. but i am new at this..
Personally, if crowing is not an issue I would try to keep him, putting aprons on the girls if they start looking ragtag.
