Watch for subclinical signs of cocci, mycoplasma sharing, and worm sharing. Chickens can tolerate low loads of round worms - vitamin A helps their immune system fend them off which is why I use poultry vitamins. Because of the heat this summer and having to change waters so many times on hot days, I have been using 4 cups of ground up calf manna pound per 50lb bag of chicken feed off and on, when I have to change water several times. I have a melon in the frig for today. Yesterday was very hot.
Found an industrial fan at TSC for 100.00 yesterday because it was needed parts modified easily made by drilling holes in a piece that came with the fan. I am so grateful for it. My other one needs a new motor and went out a couple of days ago. I am hoping to pick up 2 more for the same price. The modifications needed were easy to fix/make!!!

I do the ACV in their water. I have done dog food sometimes. It's not puppy food, but regular dog food. It is higher protein than most as we have arctic breed dogs. They are spoiled with plenty of leftovers and scratch, although not too much now with the weather so hot. They are fat and happy(or at least seem that way). The new ones aren't in with the older ones. They only last week got put in a separate pen beside the older ones. They start off laying really good for a few months and then just stop. They are not molting. They are eating and drinking. The non-egg laying started before it got hot, so I can't blame that. I just don't get why two groups have now done this.

Pat, New chickens = new strains of cocci and germs. I'd add poultry vitamins and apple cider vinegar to their water every day. I'd buy cheap puppy food, (check the ingredients between the brands- no purina), and supplement with a little bit of puppy food a couple of times a week. You can add water to the puppy feed and let it soak up. Add a bit of their feed and or grain to the mix, little bit of yogurt, left overs, and put out what they will clean up in 20 minutes. My parents spoiled chickens. Their chickens get all of the skin and fat off of their meat cooked, puppy food, and their grain put into the small pot after the heat is turned off. Six chickens were fed a large cottage cheese container every day of their lives; warmed in the winter and cold in the heat of the summer day. Their chickens lay everyday up to very old age, 8 to 16 years.
