Don't want to add "political" fuel to the fire to get me kicked off this list, but, back in '09 Wayne Pacelle CEO of HSUS, urged all members to write to President Obama to appoint Tom Vilsack to USDA which happened. Vilsack then appointed Sarah L. Conant as Head of the Enforcement Division of APHIS just two days after leaving HSUS as a litigation lawyer where her husband is still employed. It's not too difficult to connect the dots to see why it's of utmost importance for *everyone* involved in animal agriculture to stand together - whether back yard chicken keepers or those that supply day old chicks or hatching eggs. While birds are not regulated presently. that can change in the blink of an eye and with a 60 day waiting period after being published in the Federaral Register.
This country (US) is on a slippery slope of wiping out all animal agriculture. Including my dream of chickens.

Before anyone gets to thinking this one was off-topic--if industrial-agriculture-controlled government will roll out this sort of thing on those who raise heritage pig breeds, remember that it could equally be done about heritage poultry breeds. Yes, there *have* been pig farmers who have been forced to shoot their heritage breed pigs since they were deemed "invasive" and "feral" (because they were living on pasture instead of in massive industrial-type barns, and were the wrong colors and had too much hair...)
