I agree with Denise. Chickens are heavy sleepers and can easily be picked up when they are asleep.

For the baby chicks, I'd keep them warm somehow and wouldn't put them outside in the elements until they are almost fully grown if it is that cold outside.

Can you just wait until they go to roost at night and pick them up to doctor or rub vasaline on their combs?
