Re: [CHICKENS-101] Frost bite?

Just make sure it is only a little bit of Vaseline so it doesn't get on the feathers and create more problems. My white rocks have nice big combs and do fine when it is cold outside.  Once temperatures drop below 30 they were given a 250 watt heat lamp.  Frost bite on combs can/may damage rooster fertility.

My roos also got some comb frostbite last winter, despite a pretty well insulated coop--probably when they were outside, I don't know. I've understod that those with large combs are more prone to it, while the "hardy" breeds simply haven't got as much exposed comb. If you can get hold of your roos (I couldn't!) the advice is to coat the comb with some vaseline. (Works for the hens as well.)
