Many years ago I had a Asil cock. He was a really nice rooster and I loved him.
Ever since he died I've wanted to get some more Asils. Today they arrived!
"The Asil (or Aseel) is probably the oldest gamefowl breed in the world. These
fighting fowl have already being mentioned in the Dharmashastra Manu, a very old
Indian manuscript from 1500 BC on law, ethics and religion. The origin of the
Asil is without any doubt the Indian sub-continent ; India, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and bordering countries are considered to be the homelands
of the breed. There are two varieties ; a small one known as the Reza Asil with
a max weight of 3 Kg / 6.6 Lbs and a large variety known generally as Kulang
Asil reaching weights upto 6 Kg / 13 Lbs. The Asil is a compact very muscular
gamefowl breed. Typical features (depending on variety) pea/walnut or single
comb, a pearl-white eye, white or horn-coloured beak, leg colour ranging from
ivory-white, yellow to black. Also typical are the strongboned square shanks.
Bearded and tassled varieties exist too. The Asil compared to the Japanese Shamo
has a less upright stand. The shoulders are broad but carried close to the body.
The line of the back declines about 45 degrees. The tail of an Asil is of medium
length, carried horizontally or slightly drooping
