I have read about making the chicks pets and the idea appeals to me as I am an animal lover. When I first moved here I lived under a bridge over the Chetco river in an RV. I was the only one around and I had a ramp set up for squirrles and chipmonks to pay me a visit. I have an 80 pound dog that loves to chase things but would not hurt a flea. He once befriended a very bold cat. He will adapt. By sealing the room I just mean keeping the door closed. It will be a trial and error thing. thanks for your comments.

Hi! It should work out well, though it may be a bit better for all involved if instead of sealing the room off completely you get a few chicken diapers and make the hens into pets that sometimes get to roam the trailer, perhaps with a little play pen for them to get outside for a bit on good days. It'll work out either way, but that'll make sure everyone stays healthier and happier and it's surprisingly soothing to sit watching tv with a chicken in your lap. As for breeds, I'll second the standard Cochins and Buff Orphingtons. My Orphies kept trying to move into the house, even when they were outside chickens and they do lay really well. Cochins aren't grand layers, but they're one of my favorite breeds since they're so utterly big and fluffy. If you don't mind smaller chickens that lay smaller eggs, I think Silkies make the very best house chickens and it's always fun to tell people that they're just funny-looking bunnies, a surprising amount of people
believe it, since they've never seen "furry" chickens.
