Re: [CHICKENS-101] Anyone ever have an egg-bound chicken?

I'm sorry Ruth.  I have parrots too, and that's a very legitimate worry for me too.  I have had two hens survive being egg bound, and I've had others who didn't.
You're poor bird went through a lot.  It's sad the nature of their own bodies can be so cruel.  What kind of parrot was she?

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Anyone ever have an egg-bound chicken?

Just curious, has anyone ever had an egg-bound chicken? And if so, how did you know? And did it survive?

I ask because my 27 1/2 year old parrot just died the day after Christmas. I'd had her since she was 3 months old. Never laid an egg her entire life. At age 26 yrs. started with an upper resp. cold. Took her to the vet and an xray showed an egg that hadn't passed. She had surgery etc., and lived. But, a week ago now, she started again with a resp cold. Took her to the vet and she was septic throughout. Xray again revealed another egg that hadn't passed. After 4 days of intensive care, she died on the 5th day.

Just wondered if anyone has had anything similar happen with their chickens.

Ruth
