Ruth,
I lost two birds to being egg bound, and it was very sad. I lost
Tallulah, and Rosie, two very neat chicken girls. I didn't treat
Tallulah correctly, using cold water instead of warm. I did put Rosie
in warm water, used olive oil up the egg chute, but it didn't do well
for her either. We both cried when Rosie died. She hung on long enough
to hear my voice when I got back from the grocery store, then died
before we could get back inside. I also had another egg bound bantam,
that I carried around in my bra, to keep her warm along with the warm
water and olive oil. I was going to school at that time and the
supervisor didn't take my excuse of my pet dying. I have heard of
people treating egg binding successfully, but I have not been able to.
If I ever have another egg-bound chicken, I will try to take the best
care that I can of her. I cannot afford a vet visit.
