Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: switched feeds

I don't use much scratch anymore because most of my girls are older and when I increase the scratch the laying production goes down. They are usually awesome layers except during molt. I have a 5 year old Americauna that has produced an egg a day with occasional days off. Last winter they were traumatized by a dog attack and I got no eggs for the rest of the winter. My plan is to keep them in good condition physically & mentally this year and not have to buy eggs. I'm also going to buy pullets this spring because the dog attack took me down to 7 hens that are all 4 to 5 years old. I'm still rebuilding the standard chickens area, I got bantams this spring because their area had already been built and fortified.
The Girard Co-op does have good feed. I buy my cow and goat feed there as needed.

I don't/won't do putrina...but I use quite a bit of scratch. I
generally feed the adult chickens a mix of scratch/cracked corn/layer
pellets/with a bit of oyster shell from time to time.

Why don't you use much scratch anymore?
