Re: [CHICKENS-101] Please help this idiot with heating!

My goodness, how cold is it where you live!?  It was in the 20's last night where I live in Georgia and my chickens were in thier house with lots of straw and no lights or heat and all were out running around this morning when it got up to 45.  My chickens range in age from 3 months to 2 years.  I cover the fence of their run with plastic in the winter and give them more straw to play in and all day access to their house in the winter.  Feed them some scratch each afternoon and hot oatmeal with layer mash in the morning and they are happy!.   Susan

Ok, I'm just stupid thinking I could have chicks this time of the year. I have always put them in an enclosed rabbit hutch with heat lamp. Didn't work, too cold out, so the dern things are in my master bath, screaming their bloody heads off all night. I have two heat lamps, one red, one clear and a portable heater on all night. I didn't take a room temp, but I thought it was warm in there. Please, do tell what I am to do to get them comfortable and let me sleep! Or any great ideas for me to get them back out of my house (bleck!)

Many thanks!

Renee
