Re: [CHICKENS-101] housing issue

Hi DrDoug:

I agree with Cathryn; however, I find I like to close them all up at the end (and open them in the AM) just to count everybody, as well as to check for health, happiness and well-being. Just a thought.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] housing issue

Greetings all you chicken experts, I have a question.
I have a rather large coop (About 8' by 4') with a large roost area and 6 nest boxes built into the walls. Outside of that I have a pen area that is about 10' by 18' that is fenced in all around including the top. My perimeter fencing goes down and then horizontal inward for at least 12" and in the more vulnerable areas, it also goes outward at least 12".
I have a door that closes on the coop that I shut at night.
My question is, do I really need to close the door? Nothing short of a bear (which we do not have around here) could get into the pen. We also do not have mountain lions, cougars or any large cats.
Thanks for your replies.
Cheers
~Dr.Doug
