[CHICKENS-101] RE: Red mites

I hope your little Roo feels better soon, and thanks for the reminder about checking for bugs. Birds get anemic with severe infestations too wouldn't they?. I mean mites do feast on blood right? If mites are nesting ON your bird that's just mean.. those horrid little bugs should feel terrible. I thought they only nested in the coops in the cracks of the wood.( where we could get to them easily ) Maybe the naughty little creatures are evolving.

I have a very old roo that has been having a rough moult and I found yesterday that he had bunches of red mite egg nests on his feathers near the skin and tons of red mites on him. I just wanted to remind everyone to check your chickens for red mites especially if you see they are having a hard, long moult. I cut out the mite nests and dusted him well. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.
