My main concern at this time of the year would be the cold weather. It has been quite windy where we live. If she hatches eggs it would be best to bring them in until they are fully feathered out. Does she have a safe, warm, enclosed area?
I don't really have a lot of experience with hens raising chicks because I put my new hatches in a brooder in the basement. Susan

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Sitting hen
I have a related question. I wrote a couple weeks back about a hen that I didn't know what was going on with her. I'm new to all this chicken sh-- ;-), so I didn't know whether I was looking at egg bound, molting, broody or some kind of sickness. At this point I'm fairly certain she is just broody. I've been removing the eggs about twice a day, but now I'm wondering, maybe I should just let her hatch a clutch. We have a roo, so they should be fertilized. Can anyone tell me of any downside to this that is not apparent to me? I do not want to go through the whole keeping them in the tub thing all over again, so if I let her go forward with this, I'd be keeping the chicks with her. They are in a large, enclosed area of the barn. Rats can get in, but nothing else. And I'm working on the rats, but don't know if I'll be able to eliminate them entirely.
Thanks,
Anne
