[CHICKENS-101] Re: snails, worms, and parasites

Hi Rebecca: All chickens have parasites, those that free range have free range parasites including one or more of the 3,452 varieties of worms. Not all parasites are bad, in fact some are necessary for the health of the bird. Other than seeing them either in droppings or around the vent the main symptom of the seriously bad kind is a dead chicken. Worming should be used as disaster relief IMHO, not for every day use.

SO my next question is other than runny poops, how do you tell that they may have worms or have early symptoms of parasites? just assuming that since there are snails about they are going to have problems may be medicating before they're actually having an issue. This might be preemptive or it might be creating a worm that is resistant to the suppliments. Reasonable? I appreciate your thoughts.
