Re: [CHICKENS-101] Ginas chickens

Gina, I am so sorry.  You may have to put locks on gates. Many years ago, I had the same problem, even had the barn door frame taken apart so they could get in and steal my silkies I had just brought from NM. Fenton police would not investigate, even though it cost me 1,000's to buy and get them to MI. This is horrible. Cathryn

I just look inside the coop which is a huge dog house. It is solid wood and like you it only has the hole for the cord but a predator couldn't squeeze a chicken through that hole! It is difficult to count the chickens when they are in as the house sits on the ground and I would have to kneel on the wet muddy ground to really be able to see. The door was still locked when I let them out this  morning. I did look at them several times yesterday and they seemed to be all there.. I think they were all there too when I fed the scratch about an hour before they went in their house. There is no sign of a predator or any feathers. I walked my entire property today. I have an acre.

This is the first time I have lost chickens this year except for the fiasco with the cat getting my blind rooster..

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: OT chip barms and blue pop lol

I have a collection of stampers and card stock, along with a cupboard of supplies I use for after school crafts and for Valentines for Vets. :)  I am supposed to have surgery if the 2nd cardioversion does not work; I am guessing for the next year.  I did not give up my basic salads and raw veggies.  I had U of M Ann Arbor anticoag clinic adjust my doses in the beginning around them. I do not eat more or less though and am thankful that the school salad bar is pretty much the same everyday.  Cathryn

It is?  How does it react?  I've never been on coumodin but my XDH was.  He wasn't a tea drinker anyway.

Nevermind, I Googled.  : ) Interferes with absorbtion.  But wow, there's a whole BOATLOAD of things you have to avoid.  Are you on this for life or temporarily?

What's a stamper?  Well, they stamp.  Like in ink pad, rubber stamp, embossing powder, heat gun, card stock, crimper, paper trimmer, adhesives, bone folder, die cut punches, eyelets, and other fun stuff.  I asked because Barbara's siggy says 'card lady' so I figured she makes cards.  Maybe not, maybe she's a dealer in Reno!

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Silkies hiding eggs

Eric, Thank heavens silkies can't fly up to get into more hiding spaces.  You have to be a detective and half to find your eggs! Cathryn

One of my Game hens hid her nest in a wood stove. She went in through the fitting for the stove pipe. Another his her nest in an old van engine compartment on the battery holder. Both of those took me a long time to find and I only did because I watched the hen, broody, going back to her nest.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Angel

Georgia, I missed you and everyone else too.  It's been nuts with my special ed students having to take the general ed mid semester exams and the written exams.  Plus grades, accommodation worksheets out to the general ed teachers, forms, iep progress reports, medicaid billing, along with other paper work still to do. Semester change and do you think I was wise enough to go in Friday?  No Way!!  Friday was an optional work day if grades/verification reports were done.   Good news, I am scheduled for another cardioversion on 2/18. Cathryn

Hi Cathryn, nice to see you here today.  Missed your great messages.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Angel

Georgia, Last time I had guineas, I had to pretend I did not have any.  Now if Angel could get lavender silkies,  let me pay her fees and I pay mine, and fill out all the paperwork to import.... Dreams... Cathryn

Hi Cathryn, nice to see you here today.  Missed your great messages.  So Lavender Guineas - they are rare?  I saw where one of the hatcheries was advertising Lavender Guineas but don't remember which one.

Since I'M the only one around here allowed to SCREAM, I decided guineas probably wouldn't be my best choice of bird.  : )   'Cause I just can't stand it when my DH says, in his best smirky voice "Are they defying you, dear"?

Re: [CHICKENS-101] OT Rainbow the lovebird riding herd on seramas

Gina, How funny!!!  I can see your pets running, thinking they are hearing your voice!! LOL  Cathryn

OMG, maybe I will have to give any Serama chicks to Baby, my Senegal parrot! heehee

He rules the roost around here and when he yells "get in here, right now" everyone comes running.

Another will get under the metal casing of a computer to hide her eggs from me. She can't see me, but I can see her fluffy tail sticking out. Silkies will also spend hours covering their backs and sides in bedding, then lay flat as a pancake. Silkies are too funny! Cathryn

[CHICKENS-101] Re: And I thought I got robbed!

I just leave one egg in the nest. If one is dirty that is the one I leave. And I trade it for a new one every few days.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Silkies with holes in their heads?

Georgia, Silkies have vaulted skulls like the polish from being bred to them.  From what I have read and learned, not all silkies have vaulted skulls. Cathryn

Does it close up as they mature?  Do the chickens know about this vulnerable spot?  Because the young Silkies I have seem to go for each other top knots!

Thanks,
Georgia
