Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hooked Beak

Tim, You can see the quick in the beak.  Just avoid the quick, trim as much as you can each time, and file the beak so it is rounded at the tip like a beak should be. I'm happy for you that you are able to get back into chickens again.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Hooked Beak

This is my first post. I am excited about getting back into chickens after a five year hiatus. I have a mixed flock of 8 week old pullets. I noticed one of the EE pullets has a hooked beak and not doing as well as the others. She can't completely close her beak. I have read up a little and plan to trim her top beak back a with dog nail trimmers. Sounds like the best process is to trim back just a little at a time until the beak can close. I would appreciate any advice on the subject.
