[CHICKENS-101] Chickens out and about

 

Hi Group,
I am new to chickens, I have 11 (mixed breed) chicks — 9 weeks old living in my guest room as we finish up the coop construction. As you can imagine, this is getting old. :) I am hoping to move them into their new home this week.

I also want to get them out and let them be, well, chickens...the coop is built into a dog run with 4 foot walls and there's plenty of leaf litter and such for them to dig around in. However, I have three older dogs (10 and 11) and two younger cats (3 and 5). The cats occasionally kill birds, the dogs don't seem to pay much mind to birds (or squirrels) in the yard. I want to let the chicks explore but I am not certain how to introduce the chicks to the other animals.

Any suggestions?
