My chickens did this when they were pullets, especially if I sat down in their run, and especially in the late afternoon/early evening when they were ready to roost. They're too big to get on my shoulders now, but they still like to hop up into my lap if I sit down out there. I keep a big plastic step-stool out there partially for that purpose.

Yes I'm thinking it is a barred rock.....I've just never had a chicken do that before, but then I've never had mixed chickens only "white" ones. Now I have all kinds and then one of the bantams followed him/her up on my shoulder too.......Funny :)
