It's funny Jane, I'm not that many communities from you, and our rule are something like 7 acres for the first horse, and 1/2 acre for each beyond that. I remember we could have a max of 7 on our 10 aces. I never thought to ask how many chickens we could have. Of course, the neighbor to the back of our property has 20 acres and many more than 14 horses!
 
I wonder if miniature horses count as one horse? ;o)

1 chicken=1 acre is outrageous! When we asked our building supervisor of our township if we needed a building permit to build a chicken coop. He told me that since we have 5 acres, we are only allowed 3 livestock. He went on to say livestock is livestock. Horse, cow, pig or chicken... all the same. What a dope! When he asked me how many chickens I had and I told him 12 plus 36 chicks he about had a heart attach! I didn't bother telling him about our horses. LOL!
