First, let me say, I mean no offense to those who breed birds for show. Not my thing personally, it's just the birds I bought. Last Feb I bought my first Silkies from a guy who raises show chickens. 3 Splash, 1 Black, 1 Blue. Later in the year I noticed the Black was blind. My roo took good care of her and I always left the feeders and water in the same place so she could find them. A few months later, she passed on from the unknown. So today while out feeding the tribe I noticed my Blue is either losing or has also lost her sight. She was having problems finding her favorite feeder, which is metal (I have 1 metal and one wood DH made me). Soon as she hears the food hit she's usually there. I keep the feathers trimmed around their eyes, so it's not feather blockage. No injury, these are kept in an enclosed run, same brand of feed since forever. Not from TSC. It's Southern States brand. A couple of months ago I purchased Silkie - all Splash chicks from someone who's birds came from the same guy. Any ideas on why it's just the solid colors? All the other birds are healthy. Last Wed I had to start using Duramycin since one had a chicken cold and I didn't want it to spread, but she has been exposed to that before. And I need to get them thru this so I can move other chicks to that house. This house has Silkies , a couple of bantams, a Giant, Cochin, Brahma, Polish. The chicks have a separate enclosure. Any ideas? Gothy in DE http://fullmoonchickens.blogspot.com/ |
