[CHICKENS-101] Re: chicken pens surrounded by snakes

We actually just lost our wonderful old ranch dog last month. He was a "Mutt', part Golden Retriever and part Lab and part Border Collie. But Quigely was the best dog anyone could ask for. He would worry over the chicks and guard the chickens "like a hawk". So 'keen' was he, everytime he'd hear a hen squawk, for whatever reason, he'd automatically go after the rooster even if the poor boy was minding his own business at that moment, since he was so accoustomed to the rooster being the trouble maker. Even when he could barely get around, his presence was daunting. He was a magnificent dog. Now all we have is our son's Minpin whom we love dearly, but she is a nut case. We have to keep her on a tether when we're out with the chickens as she will try to "police" them as  she saw Quigely do, but she just tries to bite whoever she can catch.  Her crazy, barking presence is a deturrent to the hawks though. But yes, we do still plan on getting another good ranch dog.  Quigely will be hard to replace.
