[CHICKENS-101] Re: The Most Unusual Livestock Guardian

Owls will get big macaws, which is why I don't fly my birds near dusk.

What kind of a "green parrot" was it? Lost birds without flight skills or fitness are in real trouble. Most pet birds are very unfit or worse, have their wings clipped. They don't stand a chance. My birds are quite fit and have been flying since babies. They've also experienced being chased by birds of prey, so are on the alert for them at all times.

Most "green parrots" are small parrots.

Yes, I would leave them out all day if I didn't have the second flight with the small parrots. The two groups do not get along and the big birds will land on the little birds' flight. The little birds will then attack the big birds and it is a fight through the bars with the little birds getting the worst of it, to the point where they could be killed.

I also worry a bit about whether they might destroy my house.

My choice would be to leave them loose all day. I have several friends who do leave their parrots loose and unsupervised. They certainly are a lot safer than my chickens are.

There were green feathers along the fence by the chick barn behind the cattle barn.
