A well balanced feed with oyster shell on the side usually prevents egg bound. Minerals, low calcium, being fat, too much protein can affect a pullet. Egg bound is rare. We hear about it here because people post when they need help. I have answered Mary Beth's post and her husband is on the way to the store. I have had one egg bound barred rock pullet I bought, and only one bloodline of buff silkie have egg bound times in all of the years I have raised silkies, other breeds of chickens, and other poultry. I have worked on other people's chickens with egg bound. It's a 50/50 survival situation depending on how long the pullet/hen has been egg bound and how fast care can un stick the egg- if it can be un stuck. Situations where the oviduct protrude are bad news.

Thank you Catherine,I think they are well and very spoilt for hens so young.I am hoping that they are healthy egg layers as well.You read so many stories about Hens having issues once the lay eggs.Hope your internet is back and running.
