Re: [CHICKENS-101] Question

DO close and latch the door.  I know it's a pain, and you may get away with not doing it now and then, but a determined raccoon will simply tear the siding off the run and bring the family for a nice big chicken dinner.  Don't forget the floor.  All the hunters know how to dig under the sides.

Is the run covered?  I've had a young hawk fly right inside.  And we had a bear try to take the siding right off the big wooden henhouse one night.

You might not lose any at first, maybe not even for a month or so.  But sooner or later the local denizens will come visiting.  And actually, spring is about the worst time.  Just like a mother cat, a mother fox, coon or possum or whatever will be out aggressively hunting for her fast growing and hungry babies.

And everybody likes chicken!!
Besides, they flutter and jump around so delightfully!
It's just sickening to go out there to visit in the morning and find them all gone, and any eggs, with hardly a sign.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Question

If I have an attached run with my coop can I leave the chicken door open or do I still lock the chickens in the coop at night?
