Something else that's interesting is that if there is no rooster, sometimes one of the hens may start looking and acting like one, growing wattles and a bigger comb, even to a small crow.  Usually the most dominant one.
 
And if you introduce a real rooster, she will revert to being a hen.

Interesting with my remaining two roos since we dispatched the Bahstid, who had been #1.  One of them did make a half-hearted "fly" at me a day or so after the execution, and got kicked about 10 feet... But what I thought interesting was that the "bottom" rooster, formerly #3, very quickly reversed the oirder and took over from the one who had been #2.
 
And something else--as soon as the Bahstid was gone, the #3, soon to be top roo, grew his comb and wattles to nearly twice the size they had been.  Bet they are as big as the Bahstid's were, now.
