Re: [CHICKENS-101] Prolific layers

I have my pullets coming for sale too. I'll keep the largest pullets for myself out of my order and sell the rest.

I have some and yes, they are wonderful layers.  This past summer, we had an 11 year old boy coming to the farm three 1/2 days a week, learning chicken keeping.  He learned to open feed bags, fill the feeders, wash the waterers and refill them, handle the birds, clean coops, etc.  In exchange, when he and his Dad finished building their coop, we gave him free choice of four hens.  He was very selective and while all four were Red Stars, they each had a different appearance.  Some had white on their tail feathers, some dark, etc.  He took his four girls home and that evening, his mother texted me that he was checking on them every hour on the hour (he really LOVES these chickens!) and the last time he checked on them, THREE EGGS!  I had told him they may not lay for a few days due to their change in environment and possible stress.........well, not these girls!

I have order 50 day old chicks to arrive mid April with the plan to raise them to 18 weeks and sell as pullets.  I may keep a few, but I also ordered 25 Asst Rainbow Layers, so I doubt I will keep too many.  I sell the pullets for $15 and couldn't keep enough on hand to sell last Spring, Summer and Fall.
