We cut out alot of quality animals that could really be good representatives of their breed by not allowing them to show in their "real" state.>>
Well said. It's always bothered me that the Brits could manage to outlaw docking of horses' tails in 1949, but both docking and nicking are still "necessary" for show horses (of certain types) over here.
That said--I do know that there's the occasional exception. Docking of Springer Spaniels is one. A dear friend of mine told me that he'd always been against it until he began working with Springers--he discovered that they'd beat their tails bloody when working in heavy brush. I can believe it, having grown up with one--that "twiddle" was perpetual (and forceful)motion!
