My Muscovy's were characters and put themselves to bed in their pen for me on command and at night. They need protection from predators. While they do not have to have a pool mine appreciated their pool in the gardens so they could keep clean. In the winter I gave them their pool 1/2 filled every other day or so to wash off. The rest of the time they had heated buckets in the winter, buckets and large water dishes with deep rims in the warm months. Ronald always lead the tractors down the lane with the guys yelling at him to get out of the way. His girls were just as full of mischief.
They preferred to hatch in their fencing buried/fencing top pen with their little houses and dog houses. They had nests in their little houses and were good about letting me catch their ducklings and play with them. I made sure to bring treats of berries, wheat, steam rolled oats - something they loved when I played with the ducklings in their pen.
I fed mine a good quality 18% animal protien, 20% when molting, let them out to free range in the gardens, and kept oyster shell on the side for the hens. (In the winter they need grit or small pea rock at all times.) Mine were huge and gorgeous. I cannot stress enough that they need protection from predators.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Muscovy ducks
Anyone happen to also be an expert on Muscovy ducks? I have a drake and 3 hens at pond on our farm and want to build a hutch for laying eggs. You would think I'm asking for launch codes as I just can't seem to find good info on sizes of the hutch, over water or over land, opening sizes, etc. Help if you can.....
