I don't ike to hit them with a stick over and over.
I have a neighbor who kicks them flying with heavy boots.
Bruises them, hurts them, and then if you decide they'd be better in the pot they are all bruised meat that doesn't bleed out very well. Even a week later, you know how long it takes a bruise to heal.
Fighting is just what chickens do. Little day old chicks, you can tell which ones are males, there they are going at it. A day or two later there will be one on top of anything he can get to---water dish, side of the box, food dish---dominant male. If he doesn't fall in. Or out.
Remember that these guys have survived for millions of years. They are leftover dinosaurs. Pretty, but aren't you glad they aren't any bigger!! And i don't like to raise chicks from the mean ones.
