Folks:
Internal deworming with D.E. (Diatomaceous earth) is a myth.
Long standing myth to be sure. Widespread myth to be sure. A myth spread and fostered by a lot of supposedly
"knowledgeable" authors. Nonetheless a myth.
Ingested D.E. particles are irritating to the mucous membranes because they are sharp. The irritation causes secretion of mucous which coats the particles in mucous rendering them no longer irritating (i.e. they are no longer "sharp").
Thus birds fed D.E. have slick, slimy, mucous coated particles of D.E. slip-sliding away over slick, slimy worms firmly attached to the walls of the digestive tract.
