[CHICKENS-101] Re: STUD ROOSTER SERVICE?

I am all for backyard urban chickens, however, there are reasons many
cities and townships do not want to allow them and the possibility of
keeping a rooster and/or breeding is one of the major concerns.
My friendly poultry loving advice would be to follow the guidelines set
by the council and be happy your allowed to have hens. It is hard enough
to keep up with sanitation with a few hens let alone a mess of chicks,
which are primarily going to be males anyway.
Think about it like this. If every other person, able to keep a small
flock of backyard chickens, broke the rules and incorporated roosters
and starting raising chicks it would inevitably be restricted/not
allowed and give poultry fanciers a bad name.
I have seen many reports of people living in the city keeping roosters
in dark rooms, sheds, basements and cellars just for the sake of
breeding. Roosters will usually not crow in the dark. This is animal
credulity and greed by that owner and should be given strict punishment
for such.
Hens do just fine without the presence of a rooster and truth be known a
hen is the hierarchy of the flock to begin with. The rooster just
watches over the hens and reproduces.
If you are wanting to hatch eggs, buy and incubator and rear chicks in
the home. Remember the more a hen is broody and raising babies the less
eggs she is going to provide for the diner table.
Hatch On!
