Jeff, I refused to buy a Kindle from Amazon too for the same reason...push push push. BUT, Woot.com has one for $89 so I did break down and buy through them. :)

We will never stop buying hard covers - 56 bookcases & counting. Our soft literature collection is difficult to determine since we have about 100 CDs from other computers from our past. For plant tissue culture we have 4,700+ files at just over 2 G bytes. 2 G is our minimum standard for a topic of interest.
As far as the book readers are concerned, one day we'll have one. Unless it is a gift, it will be after Amazon stops nagging every time I look.
Both of my adult children grew up with a strong reading background and just having the books made the impression of how important reading & learning are. My 5 year old son caught on over a year ago. Now if we can get some of these birds to start reading out loud...
