I agree Dana, that's just nuts --- I guess some people have learned just to
keep asking and someone will give it too you either because they feel sorry
for you or they just want you to hush --- they kind of wear people down I
guess. I am vice-chair of a non-profit group that helps children in foster
care that they need but the state can't or won't provide. We only have the
funds we can get donated so we have to choose what we will fund. Everyone
on the board is a Guardian-ad-litem (court appointed child advocate
volunteer) so we are able to know the details of the children's lives. Most
of the things requested by the guardian's or the foster parents are
legitimate and may include things like a year book or a prom dress for a
graduating senior or maybe a bed or some shoes. But we also get some
requests for some elaborate stuff like horseback ridding lessons and even
more extravagant things that we just don't think our donors would consider a
need. In fact, one donor said "heck, I can't even afford to give my own
kids ridding lessons!" . Anyway, as far as freecycle goes, at least you
have one! There was one listed for my County and the next County but I
never even got a reply or approval. On closer inspection there has been no
activity. I guess our little town is just too small.

I am the moderator of a local Freecycle of about 7,000. The owner left the
group and didn't make anyone else owner. My hands are tied, so I bully the
group into acting half way civil. I can't add more moderators or even change
the home page. She left the settings as everyone is moderated and every new
member has to be approved. My choices are to leave and start my own or try
and keep the one that has been going since 2006 alive.
You would not believe the things people ask for. Just had one ask for a
handicap van that must be in good working condition with working lift.
Another asked for someone to fix their van so they could take their kid to
Holiday World Monday. Both rejected! Take that $100 bill you are going to
spend on tickets to the amusment park and get your van fixed!!! Geeez.
