You can't beat natural food. Scraps are good both greens and meat. I think "scratch feed" is fine for a treat most of the time. I little dry cat food in the winter will provide protein. Depending on how severe the winters are you might get some inexpensive, if there is such a thing, poultry feed. You should really get the old boy a couple of hens.
