Thank you, Ed. I watched both videos and can see that it isn’t that difficult with the nice equipment……..of course, I don’t have any of that equipment and don’t plan to purchase it since we do not plan on getting more roosters.
While it looks easy enough, I still don’t want to do it. I can assist someone and do any job required EXCEPT the actual killing. Just can’t do it. I can’t look at them and see the life fade out of their eyes. I am a wuss and wish I wasn’t.
We have a crippled turkey that has gotten progressively worse over the last year. She still eats and chirps, but has a hard time moving and we park the food next to her. She gets up for water but probably not as often as she should. I hate seeing her in pain and know I need to end it………..so instead of ME “dispatching” her, I am having my farm vet euthanize her. I’ve had many tell me we should butcher and feed to the dogs since we feed raw, but I can’t do it. She is like a member of our family and our first turkey. She raised our other two turkeys from poulthood – protected them from the bully
I bet most of you think I am a nut case, but it really brings tears to my eyes when I think about how sweet this turkey has been and how sad it makes me to have to let her go. I know it is best for her, but it pains me more than I ever thought possible.
I have always said I am a “farmer wannabe” and I guess this is proof.

Laura this is a two part video done by Featherman Equipment that takes you through the processing procedure start to finish. This is an excellent how to for processing your poultry correctly.
