I have had a tremendous amount of success with ordering Freedom Ranger meat chickens from www.freedomrangerhatchery.com
The chicks arrive healthy and so far I have managed not to lose even one. These chickens are great for free ranging, which is how both my meat and egg layers are kept. They average 4-5 lbs in less than 3 months, are calm and friendly. There conversion ratio is excellent, and this year they are offering non gmo chicks.
All at very reasonable rates.

I will take them to get processed because butchering is something that neither my husband nor I could do. Anyway, we are in the research process and so I am gathering all the info I can. We have an old outbuilding that was once a chicken house (it has nest boxes in it) But it needs a lot of work before it will be ready for chickens. I look forward to learning from everyone!
