Re: [CHICKENS-101] alfalfa & bedding pellets

If you wet the pellets how do you keep your lofts dry?  I work at keeping my barns dry and when it was bitter cold out ran a heater not for the chickens but to keep the barn dry.  I could see the fog from the cold coming in thru the ventilation holes and door.

I raised show pigeons for several years and used lots of different bedding material. I have used the pellets that they use for horse bedding because you wet it down and it expands. No pellets to eat. I have used pine shavings, hay, cat litter and so on. What ever I used I always put down a thin layer of sulfur powder. It helps to keep the litter acidic which discourages bacteria and viruses.

Yes, I looked at those pellets in the store last week.  They had them in clear plastic bags.  I wouldn't use them for chickens, they look just like feed pellets.
