Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Half-assed idea?

Hi Brenda,
We have similar predators here, plus coyotes, foxes, bobcats, and the like. My dog pen is 13' long x 8'  wide x 7' tall. I ran high tension wires diagonally across the top for support, then used the heaviest gauge chicken wire I could find for the roof. We wove wire around the perimeter to keep it in place and have a tarp over a portion of the enclosure for shade. We also have a rain fly we've used pretty consistently. Inside the pen is an 8'x4'x4' wood and hardware cloth coop on 2 foot legs. The hens are enclosed in the coop at night for extra protection. So far, so good. We have considered replacing the "roof" with something more substantial but attaching anything to the top of the chain link presents a challenge and I haven't found a GREAT solution yet...but I'm open to suggestion.
Thanks!

Hi, Goats 'n Chickens

I have the same idea setup you have with the chain-link fence...an old dog run. I get my chicks later this month and cannot wait! But I have a question for you.

What did you put over the top of your "coop?" I have raccoons in my area and cats, hawks, etc., I want to protect them from...and also how did you affix it or do you have suggestions to how I would attach the top? This is a "firsty" for me so I need all the advice I can get.
Thx
