[CHICKENS-101] Re: Dang Chickens .. .and hubby in hot water...

I've done some yardscaping using mulches as well, and discovered that a well placed handsized rock here & there deters my chickens from scratching around in the mulch looking for worms underneath.  'Course, my property "spits up" all kinds of quartz & other rocks that look very pretty....
The other thing you could've done was put chicken wire down under the mulch to discourage the chickens from scratching in it - it's easy to cut out little sections to plant things into.

I called and they said they just today got a new shipment of fresh plants!!! yeay!! ( thinking I may go a little crazy!)
We did a lot from seeds this year... which means our plants look a little pathetic ( I know they will catch up, but patience is NOT my virtue - just like shutting the gate is not Hubby's! )

Since I am not sure that the watermelon and/or pumpkins got tore into I think I may just buy one or two plants to be sure!!  ( I had JUST put the seeds out on monday!)

We had too many cabbages anyway ( for some reason i started 40 plants!!!???) so the fact they ate a few is ok... but maybe I need to replace them with something else??? cant let that space go unused ..right? lol ...

oh... I am going to buy a roll of that knee high cheap fencing today as well.. they keep getting into my flower bed and kicking the mulch onto the sidewalk... making my front yard look very unkempt.. hoping that with all the other things to eat that the knee high stuff is enough of a deterant... (oh who am I kidding?)
