Laura, I hope your eggs hatch too. Make sure you have wire/hardware cloth over your brooder not just a top. Quail are literally like pop corn and 1,000x faster!!

I had a party ask me to drive an hour and half to meet them to sell a 10.00 calico pullet. They emailed me asking for pullets and I told them what I had.
I'd rather keep her until fall, condition and shampoo her then sell her $50.00 at a show. Not to mention the price of gas and 3 hours of driving and messing around. People continually astound me.

I candled the eggs and pitched out three, but still have 8 that look alive. They are due this week……..I need to check my calendar. The peafowl eggs look alive,too. Oh, wouldn't I be in heaven if all five hatch and live!
Btw, my little turkey poult, Billy and his sister (maybe) Lilly are doing wonderfully. Of course, all that handling and tlc has made him a spoiled brat and oh I hope my Billy is a Billie! These toms with no fear are hell on wheels when they become sexually mature. Our Tommy Hilfiger is a pistol and has to be locked up when we have company! He thinks everyone wants his women! As if!
I will let you know if the bobwhites hatch and how they do. I am nervous about how small they are! Bumble bees, for sure! My friend's husband gave them to me to hatch and isn't prepared to brood them, either. She said, "You need to charge him something for your time and trouble" but what the heck do you charge someone to hatch and brood their eggs?
Can't remember if I told you, but the guy that is buying the two turkeys for the holidays came by to meet them. I told him $75 each……..I think he was shocked at the price, despite me asking him to do his research on these free ranged heritage turkeys. Anyway, he gave me $25 deposit and I will collect the balance when I deliver them. The way it calculates out (estimated) is about $40-45 dollars worth of feed for 28-30 weeks, $10 each to dress them out and I will pocket what's left. I did tell him I wanted to make $20-25 for my labor. I hope he is happy with them.

YES! Not months—WEEKS. OY! My brain is mush.
It hit the 90's today and it was humid as hell! I sold 4 Guineas , which is always nice, but wish the other two people that were supposed to come by had come by!
My Modern and OEGs are ready to be outside and I have no place to put them. The 27, now 26 Red Stars are in the Shanty Shack……….the 7 Keets and two Poults are in their own dog run with shelter. The other two poults and five keets are not ready to be outside, yet. The Frizzle cochins are old enough, but no place to put them unless I put them out with the Red stars. They are all the same age so I think that is what I'll do tomorrow.
I candled the peafowl eggs and can't tell if they are alive or not. Some of the bobwhite eggs are definitely alive and kicking. Still have some turkey eggs and guinea eggs to candle.
If the weather continues hot and humid, my poultry sales will slow down substancially. That is what happened last year.

I wouldn't change the 14 wk olds diet until closer to 20 months and possibly 24, depending on breed. The layer pellets have calcium, which they will need for egg laying, but until they are laying, I would continue with the chick feed. That's what I do, anyway.
