First, let me say I have only one llama and 23 alpacas. They are all curious about the chickens but after their initial introduction, they pretty much ignore each other.
Secondly, I don’t believe the llama brought the menigeal worm. The M worm is brought by deer and snails who eat the feces and carry it into the pastures. If there are deer, there are M worms. Ivermectin is the best preventative.
We give our alpacas preventative ivermectin to keep the m worm under control. We have had no issues with it and hopefully (fingers crossed) we never will.
Our biggest fear and threat to our herd are Barber Pole worms. Nasty blood sucking worms that drain the life out of the animals so fast you barely have time to know they were sick!

Does anyone have llamas and can you tell me how they get along with chickens? I figure the chickens will spend the daylight hours wherever they please outside their nightime area and we have three llamas living not all that far from the chicken palace we recently built. I have no doubt the chickens will endear themselves to the rest of the domestic animals here but I was wondering if we were going to have to monitor them with the llamas initially.

Hi Peggy. Great Video, I have no doubts your chickens will be happy. One thing though, you will have to learn to speak "chicken". I have no doubt you will pick this up quickly as it is much easier than "horse". For some reason horses and chickens seem to establish a relationship. They like each other. {That keeps it on topic) My DW and I have cared for a few "rescues" over the years. The saddest are the race track rejects. We have had folks who purchased these animals come to us to "get them into shape". It's hard to believe the mental and phiyical abuse they have gone through. It's also a thrill to see them respond to...I want to say love but that don't really cover it. Respect, understanding, HEY GROUP ADD SOME WORDS HERE.
Anyway, glad to have you in the group
Ol' George,
