Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hawk attack, grrr! String across a run

How frustrating!!  Fruit tree netting at Walmart is cheaper and goes farther.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Hawk attack, grrr! String across a run

Well I finally decided to let my standards/can be replaced bantams and Indian Runners free range. I put everyone on lock down last Fall due to foxes. 2 weeks go by. No problems.
This eve the alarm goes out - chickens, ducks even the goats seemed to know something was going on. I couldn't get out of the house at the time. DH was working on a mower and heard nothing.
Around this same time last year, had a hawk who was migrating play evil eye with some of the chickens in the run, which is the area I found the feathers this eve. There is a trio of Call ducks in there there now, run is covered.
I have 7 older chicks in a converted dog kennel for housing at the moment. I've run out of  the plastic chicken fencing that I prefer to use for cover, and it being a holiday weekend, don't really want to do the run to Lowes, TSC is another town over. (I live in DE and everyone and his relative from the Tri State area is on the way down state to the beaches right now) So I'm thinking the string across the top of the pen. I think it's every 6", is this one way (as in long way) or do I need to do it as a grid?
Pi**es me off mainly cause the girls just started laying really good after sparodic eggs since I penned them. I know when you free range there are risks. Was starting to think I might make some money back towards the feed bills and then this. At least I got to enjoy Sweetie for a few years. A beautiful Black Austrolorp.

Gothy  - in the overwhelmed state of DE now that the Summer season is underway (missing the underwhelmed SoIL this time of year)
