Re: [CHICKENS-101] Guardian of Livestock..help

Yes, I agree , I have a wonderful Rough Coat Collie who will herd them back into there run and somewhat keep an eye on the chickens , that is when he is not laying in the house with me, which is a big portion of the day. But, he loves all dogs , he will bark sometimes but he is not gonna run any of the dogs off , at best he will distract them by playing with them .

            I don't recommend Border
Collies or any herding breed as LGD.  I realize there may be exceptions, but I
would doubt very many make good guardians.  They were bred to move the herd,
not protect it.

I do agree there are other
breeds that can do the job, but I have to say our Pyrs do it the best!  Our
Anatolians are too rough and too playful and cannot be trusted with the
poultry.  I don't even trust them with the goats, yet.  They are 2 ½ and still
play like fools!
