[CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicken coops for renters

Hi Tony: You are in a ticklish position. If any of your neighbors complain Management has to respond. I don't know about your neighbors but usually there is one that's a horse's rear end. A word on chickens, in their natural state they are filthy critters. A clean, odor free coop takes a lot of work and planning. Noisy is a relative term. What is music to some is noise to others. A rooster at sunrise can be thrill the first time but soon gets old. Especially when sunrise in 4:AM and they are quite audible a mile away.. A coop is only half of a chicken habitat. They also need a run. The common rule is 10 sq ft per chicken, coop and run combine. Naturally colder climates require more coop than warn places. If your run is located on your expensive lawn there will be no grass in the run after 3 days. Chickens are natural roto-tillers .
I'm not usually this negative but it's best you know what you're asking for.

We've been here six months and no one from the property management group has ever come out, but we do have ocassional repairman come out, for example a guy is coming next week to replace the window screens where we plan to build a coop.
